Invitation to workshop on Workplace Stress Management

Background

The Makerere University School of Psychology would like to invite you to nominate staff to participate in a two day training workshop on Workplace Stress Management. Stress is a workplace reality that results from many different sources including but not limited to individual, work, extra and intra organizational attempts at achieving goals. Stress can lead to problems at the individual, work, and organizational levels; and also causes health problems, social and family disruptions. In dollar terms, stress costs the USA 30 billion dollars per year. In Uganda it is not yet costed.

 

Objectives of the workshop

This training workshop is designed to equip organizations, human resource departments, managers, supervisors, officers, and staff in public and private organizations with the attitudes, knowledge and competences to diagnose and manage  workplace stress.  Specific objectives include:

  1. By the end of the training participants will be able to identify causes of stress in and out of work.
  2. By the end of the training participants will be able to diagnose/identify effects of stress in and out of work.
  3. By the end of the training participants will be able to undertake designing and evaluating of workplace stress interventions.

 

Facilitators

The key facilitators of this workshop will be Prof. P.K Baguma of Makerere University and Prof. Van Dyk from Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Both are very accomplished Psychologists in the areas of Clinical and Organizational Psychology..

 

Target population

The target  group includes Human Resource Managers, line managers, supervisors, officers and staff in public and private organizations

Cost

Each participant will be expected to confirm their attendance with a fee of Shs  100,000/= only. Payment at venue is acceptable by 17th October 2014.  Student fees 20,000=

 

Certification

All participants will receive certificates of participation.

 

Date and Venue

The workshop will take place from 17th to 18th October, 2014 at the College of Computer Science Conference Room, 4th Floor Makerere University
