Dr. Justus Twesigye is a Ugandan social work expert and academic, currently serving as the Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Makerere University. A lecturer in the Social Work and Social Administration Department, his research focuses on developmental social work, mental health, and social entrepreneurship. In 2022, he succeeded Prof. Andrew Ellias State, pledging to foster a familial atmosphere among staff and students and addressing issues including graduate space shortages, internet connectivity, and process efficiency at the school. Beyond local engagement, Dr. Twesigye was selected for Michigan’s UMAPS fellowship in 2022, where he explored social entrepreneurship in social work and forged international partnerships.
Since assuming the deanship in December 2022, Dr. Twesigye has led initiatives recognizing institutional contributors and reinforcing community culture within the school. His commitment to collaborative leadership is further evidenced by his active involvement in Makerere’s Deans’ Forum, engaging in university-wide discussions on mentoring, safeguarding, and inter-school partnerships. Dr. Twesigye continues to shape both the academic and community dimensions of Makerere’s School of Social Sciences.
