The MA. Peace and Conflict Studies a multi-disciplinary and blended program using both online and on-site (face to face) teaching and learning approaches. The shift to online delivery was automatic given the unprecedented situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic as per the circular guidelines released by the NCHE. Therefore, depending on the situation at hand, teaching, learning and supervision will take place online or physically. Our students will also get training on how to conduct physical or online research in preparation for their dissertation. In the revised programme, emphasis is also laid on the need for dissemination and communication of research finding through publications, media articles and policy briefs. Two new courses have been introduced following stakeholder consultations and in addition an intensive modular option has been introduced to the two-year duration, thus Option B of one-year intensive study is introduced.
General Objectives/Overall Aim
- The main objective of the course is capacity building by providing the nation with professionals with competent skills in peace building, conflict management and Conflict Transformation.
- To contribute to the resolution of major problems confronting human kind, such as nuclear proliferation, poverty, population growth, environmental degradation and economic disparity.
- To promote an educational process which will initiate peace among people/ nations of different ideological views, various religious persuasions and further the growth of peace in the Great Lakes Region and beyond.
- To equip participants with the skillsets that enable them provide rigorous, interdisciplinary research, that responds to the issues in the community and informs policy. As well as prepare them into peacemakers with the ability to creativity and skilfully build a society based on peace, freedom, justice and a diminished level of violence.

- By the end of the course, students should display the skillsets of engaging with rigorous, interdisciplinary research, that responds to the issues in the community and informs policy. And they should be able to work as peacemakers creatively and skilfully in their pursuit to build a society based on positive peace, freedom, justice and a diminished level of violence.

Entry requirements
The program targets graduates or highly experienced persons that are working in the field of peace building and Conflict transformation, the security sector, CBOs, NGOs as well as any person who wishes to build a career in that line.
- Anybody with an Honors’s Degree from a fully accredited institution of Higher Learning.
- Professional Qualifications: An applicant with qualifications equated to a Bachelor’s degree by the National Council of Higher Education MUST have been working in a field of Peace, Security & Conflict Transformation.

Designation of the Award
The Program leads to the award of a Master in Peace and Conflict Studies upon completion of all course requirement.
