Biography

Janestic Twikirize is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration, Makerere University, Uganda. She holds a PhD in Social Work and Social Development. She has a teaching experience of more than 21 years at both undergraduate and post graduate levels and has supervised several graduate students to completion. She has published more than 36 scientific papers including seven (7) book publications; and has made over 30 presentations in international conferences in the past 5 years. Between 2012 and 2018, she served as the Vice President of the Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa and a Board member of the IASSW for 5 years. She is a member of the Capacity Building committee. She supportsthe Africa Region Global Agenda Observatory. She is involved in several international academic partnership projects to promote social work education. Together with schools of social work in Rwanda, Tanzania, and Norway, she currently coordinates the implementation of an innovative approach, Community Social Labs, under the NORHED funded RESILIENT project, which aims to promote a decolonial, inclusive social work education. She spearheaded the development of the National Minimum Standards and Competency Framework for Social Work Education in Uganda in 2018.
