Nelson Nsereko

Dr. Nelson Nsereko is a Lecturer of Kiswahili in the Department of African Languages, School of Languages, Literature and Communication, Makerere University. He holds a PhD in African Languages (2026), a Master of Arts in Linguistics (2020), a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (2017), and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Makerere University (2011). His research interests are centred on Kiswahili linguistics, language variation, language development, terminology studies, translation studies, and the broader study of African languages.

His doctoral research examined the development and morphosyntactic features of the Kiswahili variety spoken in Uganda, contributing to scholarship on language contact, variation, and the evolution of Kiswahili in multilingual contexts. Dr. Nsereko has published in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes on Kiswahili language development, terminology, and linguistic structures. He has presented his research at national, regional, and international conferences, contributing to scholarly debates on the growth and transformation of Kiswahili in Africa.

With over a decade of university teaching experience, Dr. Nsereko has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Kiswahili language, literature, translation, lexicography, terminology development, and research methods. Beyond teaching and research, he is an accomplished translator and interpreter who has provided professional language services to universities, government institutions, and local and international organizations. He has participated in curriculum development initiatives, research projects, and academic collaborations aimed at promoting African languages. Through his scholarship, professional engagement, and commitment to language policy and innovation, Dr. Nsereko continues to contribute to the advancement and recognition of Kiswahili in Uganda, East Africa, and the wider African continent.
