Biography

Dr. Ampaire Anne, PhD, is an esteemed Academic and Lecturer in the Department of Educational, Social and Organizational Psychology in the School of Psychology, Makerere University. Her landmark doctoral research analyzed how career stereotypes and aspirations predict students’ independence in career choices across the Lower, Higher, and University Education Transitional Levels in Uganda. This study provided vital insights into systemic barriers affecting authentic career alignment, including societal, institutional, family, and gender stereotypes that end up influencing learners’ aspirations and abilities.

As an active researcher and Principal Investigator, Dr. Ampaire’s expertise spans educational psychology, school mental health, inclusive education, and developmental learner challenges. She has spearheaded critical socio-academic engagements with school-stakeholders on how institutions can deal effectively with emerging learner needs such as bullying, emotional instability, career dilemmas, and psychosocial distress. A passionate advocate for student welfare, she champions a holistic psycho-education approach to institutional mental health, calling for coordinated collaboration among the teaching, support staff, and entire school-stakeholders to safeguard learners wellbeing.

Beyond academic writing, Dr. Ampaire is a driving force in educational practice and community outreach. She has led major university initiatives, such as the School-Stakeholders’ data-driven seminar series, which explicitly aims to connect in-class content with real-life practice in what she dubs ‘psychologizing the learning context’. Through this work, she closely mentors graduate students pursuing advanced diplomas and master’s degrees in educational psychology and early childhood education. Her public engagements focus intensely on modernizing Uganda’s educational landscape by supporting the Competence-Based Curriculum model. Dr. Ampaire remains a pivotal figure at Makerere University, bridging educational psychology with impactful social systems. Today, her highly expanding professional research output cuts across crucial barriers to the girl-child’s interest, access, and retention in STEM subjects, the strategic adoption of modern digital ICT tools in education, active learning models, career pathways, and comprehensive school-wide sexual health education.
