Aminah Nakaliisa is an Assistant Lecturer, who not only teaches German language and literature but also coordinates academic activities within the German section, including student support and curriculum implementation. Her work is driven by a commitment to advancing the teaching and learning of German as a foreign language in Uganda and strengthening academic collaboration.
She is currently pursuing a PhD in German Studies at Makerere University under a Gerda Henkel Foundation Fellowship, with a research focus on the evolution of German language coursebooks used in Ugandan secondary schools. Her study examines how coursebooks represent culture, intercultural communicative competence, learner identity, while also exploring teachers’ adaptation of coursebook content to the local educational context. The research aims to contribute to the development of culturally responsive and contextually relevant German language teaching materials in Uganda.
As part of her doctoral training, Aminah is currently undertaking a research stay at Leipzig University in Germany. During this period, she is refining her theoretical and methodological framework, engaging with scholars in German Studies and foreign language education, strengthening the international dimension of her research.
Beyond her research, Aminah is actively involved in promoting German language education through academic coordination and development of partnerships with international institutions. She has contributed to initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for students and staff. She is interested in fostering sustainable academic networks that enhance teaching quality, research capacity and intercultural exchange.
Through her teaching, research and institutional engagement, Aminah seeks to contribute to the continued growth of German Studies in Uganda and to the broader discourse on intercultural language education in multilingual and multicultural contexts.
