The Master of Arts in Human Rights was introduced in 1999 and it was last revised in 2010. As we undertook to do the revision, we were guided by the Draft Framework for Curriculum Development and Review of Programmes issued by the Office of the University Academic Registrar, hereafter referred to as the “Framework”. Accordingly, this Revised Programme is a result of painstaking effort of wide consultation, deliberation, reflection besides close scrutiny of the 2010 version of the programme. As such, this new version fundamentally differs from the 2010 version because of the need to take care of the contemporary concerns in the field of promotion and protection of human rights and more especially if we are looking forward to building a human rights respecting community.
By the end of the programme, the graduates should be able to:
MA Human Rights graduates are generally open to diverse employment opportunities and are also flexible for various on-job training careers like Uganda Human Rights Commission, police, military, security agencies, civil society organisations and international organisations, etc. It is therefore hoped that graduates of the programme can be recruited in civil society organisations, various government ministries/institutions including police, prisons, security agencies, international agencies, private sector and others.
It is an evening programme and will deploy blended methods of teaching and learning.
All People who have work experience or have an interest in human rights and have a minimum of an honour’s bachelor’s degree from a chartered recognized University.
Two years each consisting of two Semesters, each Semester consisting of 15 weeks of teaching and 2 weeks of examinations. There will be a break of 4 weeks between Semesters.

The Tuition for Ugandans and East Africans generally will pay 5,650,000/= (Five Million, six Hundred fifty thousand only) per annum, while the international students will pay 7,000,000/= (Seven million only per annum)
A Lower Second Honours Degree or its equivalent from a recognized University or Institution with supporting qualifications related to Human Rights. For instance, a bachelor’s degree with a Diploma in Law, Women’s Rights, Children’s Rights, Rights of the disabled etc. and has participated in Human Rights activities.
