Biography

Prof. Abasi Kiyimba is a distinguished Ugandan academic and Professor of Literature in the Department of Literature at Makerere University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS). With a career spanning several decades, he has contributed significantly to literary scholarship, teaching a wide range of courses in literature and critical theory, and exploring themes in African oral literature, gender in literature, translation studies, and cultural discourse. Prof. Kiyimba has also held key leadership roles at Makerere, including serving as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts and as Deputy Principal of CHUSS, where he has overseen language learning programs and the development of translation studies. His academic work includes influential publications such as The Ghost of Idi Amin in Ugandan Literature and notable translations like Okot P’Bitek’s Song of Lawino into Luganda, reflecting his commitment to widening access to African literary heritage.
