Biography

Dr. Emmy Rwomushana is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of African Languages within the School of Languages, Literature and Communication at Makerere University. With an extensive background in higher education administration and linguistics, he previously served as a Deputy Registrar at Uganda Martyrs University before transitioning fully into academia. Dr. Rwomushana holds a Master of Arts in Languages from Makerere University and has dedicated his career to teaching, mentoring undergraduate students, and advancing the study of indigenous Ugandan languages.

His primary research focuses on the intersection of linguistics, gender, and socio-cultural power dynamics within East African oral traditions. He successfully defended his doctoral thesis, “Gender and Power: A critical discourse analysis of Runyankore-Rukiga marriage songs among the Bakiga,” which explores how traditional performance genres construct, reinforce, or subvert patriarchal structures and gender identities. Dr. Rwomushana’s scholarly contributions—published in regional platforms like the East African Journal of Traditions, Culture and Religion—continue to enrich contemporary discourse on linguistic negation, cultural preservation, and social change in Uganda.
