Biography

James Mangeni Byanasaye Wasike, holds a PhD from the Department of Psychology, Stellenbosch University. Dr. Wasike has a background in Sociology and specialization in Medical Anthropology. He lectures at the Department of Sociology and anthropology, Makerere University. He serves as a board member of the Makerere College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) – School of Health Sciences Institutional Review Board (SHS-IRB), board member of the Makerere University School of Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee (MAKSS REC), and board Member of the Social and Humanistic Committee of the Uganda National Commission for UNESCO (UNATCOM). His research focus is on Global Health Security, Public Health, Disability and Higher Education, and Child Health and Development. Since 2020, James has been giving technical support to Makerere College of Health Sciences (MakCHS)- Department of Medicine -Clinical Epidemiology Unit- Behavioral and Social Science Research (BSSR) Training Program on Strengthening Behavioral and Social Science Research capacity to address evolving challenges in Disability, HIV care and prevention in Uganda. BSSR is a five-year program funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institutes of Health on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and Fogarty International Center (FIC), USA – Grant No. D43TW011304. Currently, Dr. Wasike is working together with colleagues from the University of Manchester on a research programme titled: Dental antimicrobial resistance in sub-Saharan Africa – Developing an evidence-based intervention (DAMS-SSA).  DAMS-SSA is a three-year research program funded by the UK Research and Innovation – Medical Research Council (UKRI – MRC), United Kingdom – Grant No. MR/Y019695/1.
