Lecturer

Biography

Zaid Sekito is a Lecturer in the Department of History, Archaeology and Heritage Studies at Makerere University. He is a historian whose scholarship sits at the intersection of history, peace and conflict studies, terrorism, and human rights, with a strong regional focus on Uganda and the Great Lakes Region of Eastern Africa. His work critically examines the historical evolution of terrorism, violent extremism, and state security practices, situating these within broader global geopolitical narratives while foregrounding local experiences and agency.

His research places particular emphasis on human rights, youth agency, and community resilience, especially in fragile borderland contexts. Through his teaching, research, and supervision of graduate students, he contributes to interdisciplinary debates on conflict management, counter-terrorism, and peacebuilding. Zaid Sekito has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, edited volumes, and policy-oriented platforms, and has benefited from several prestigious research and postdoctoral fellowships. He remains actively engaged in collaborative research networks and academic capacity-building initiatives aimed at advancing evidence-based, human-centred approaches to security and peace in Africa.
