UN Women in collaboration with the School of Women and Gender Studies of Makerere University, UNESCO, UNICEF, the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development is organizing a one-day conference on Education and Training for Women and Girls.
The conference will take place at the Senate Building, Makerere University, on Thursday 19th February, 2015 from 8:30 to 5:00pm.
It will bring together a wide range of stakeholders from the government, UN, civil society, development partners, academia and students to discuss a number of topics related to Education and Training for Women and Girls such as:
- Women in science and technology
- Creating enabling learning environment for Women and Girls
- Gender friendly pedagogies and the need for female involvement in education.
There is room for 20 students, particularly female students from the Sciences to attend the conference.
NB: The conference is one of activities organized to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was adopted by 189 member States in 1995 as a global agenda for advancing women’s human rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women; and the Beijing + 20 Campaign in Uganda was launched on 31st July 2014 under the theme; “Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity. Picture it!”
