The School of Psychology has organized a three-day training workshop on crisis and trauma to take place on 30th July to 1st August 2018 in the School of Food Science Conference Hall, Makerere University from 8:30am-4:30pm everyday. The workshop will be co-facilitated by Dr John Kiweewa, an Associate Professor in the Wegmans School of Nursing at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY and Dr Eberts Stephanie, Associate Professor at Louisiana State University, USA. Dr Kiweewa is a recipient of the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship (2018) and is currently based at the School of Psychology, Makerere University.
The three-day workshop in crisis and trauma is intended to provide professionals and paraprofessionals with the foundational knowledge in working effectively with individuals in crisis situations and those experiencing trauma. Participants will among other things gain understanding of the biological foundations of trauma, current crisis and trauma theory, and skills in working with individuals in situations of gender-based violence, grief and loss, child abuse and substance abuse. Participants will gain firsthand knowledge and skills through live demonstrations of ways to address certain crisis emergencies and trauma situations. This is a highly interactive training workshop with experts who bring vast clinical and training experiences.
