Danson Sylvester Kahyana
Danson Sylvester Kahyana holds a PhD in English from Stellenbosch University, a Masters of Arts, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and a Bachelor of Arts from Makerere University. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Literature Makerere University. His teaching areas include Ugandan Literature, East African Literature, African Poetry and Oral Literature. His research interests include Uganda’s old writing traditions, African poetry, African fictions and the use of social media and electronic gadgets in literary production. His current project: “Literary Creativity on Ugandan Social Media Sites: Key Issues and Stylistic Novelties” investigates the nature of literary creativity on Ugandan social media sites with particular focus on the key issues that social media users raise, the stylistic novelties of the work produced on these sites, and the challenges associated with using social media as a literary platform.
Peace Musiimenta
Peace Musiimenta holds a BA(Ed), MA in Women Studies and a PhD in Gender Studies all from Makerere University. Her PhD research project titled “Redefined Subordination: Interrogating Educated Women’s Lived Experiences in Contemporary Urban Uganda” was pursued in collaboration with the University of Tromso, Norway. She has also taught History and Religious Education in secondary schools for over 12 years. She is currently a lecturer and researcher in School of Women and Gender Studies, Makerere University. She has won many awards from Carnegie Corporation of New York, Directorate of Research and Graduate Training, AHP/ACLS, NUFU- Norway, CODESRIA and Andrew W Mellon Competitive Mentorship-Oriented Research.
Merit Kabugo
Merit Kabugo is a Lecturer and Head of the Department of Linguistics, English Language Studies and Communication Skills at Makerere University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts in Linguistics degree from Makerere University. He also holds a PhD in African Languages from Stellenbosch University. He specializes in the areas of Applied Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Translation and Linguistic Anthropology. He has won various individual and collaborative research grants, fellowships and awards from organizations like the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), SIDA, the Centre for Research on Environmental Decisions (CRED), the African Doctoral Academy (ADA), the French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA), the Andrew W Mellon Foundation, PANGeA, the European Association of Social Anthropology (EASA), among others.
