Getting to Uganda

When and where should I book my flight?
- Book as soon as your participation is confirmed, for better fares and connections.
- Fly into Entebbe International Airport (EBB), Uganda’s main international gateway.
- Arrive in time to settle in and register before the conference on 7–9 April 2027.
- Where possible, book a return flight that leaves after the conference ends.
- Make sure the name on your ticket matches your passport exactly.
Which airlines fly to Uganda?
Direct and connecting flights reach Entebbe from across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, with airlines including Uganda Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, RwandAir, Brussels Airlines and KLM. Check schedules and any transit visa requirements with your airline before you buy.
Do I need a visa?
Check whether your nationality needs a visa to enter Uganda. If it does, apply through the official Uganda Electronic Visa Application System before you travel, and carry a printed or electronic copy of your approval letter. Registered and confirmed participants will receive an official invitation letter from the conference to support their visa application. For help with visas or travel documents, contact Ever Based Tours & Travel or your local travel agent.
Links open the official Uganda Electronic Visa Application System and the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control websites.
What documents should I carry?
- A passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date
- Your visa approval, if one is required
- Your conference invitation letter or registration confirmation
- Your return or onward flight itinerary
- Your hotel booking or accommodation details
Do I need a yellow fever certificate?
No. Under a notice from Uganda’s National Citizenship and Immigration Control dated 2 October 2026, a yellow fever vaccination certificate is no longer required to enter Uganda. Vaccination is still recommended for your own protection, and your airline, transit countries or onward destinations may have their own health requirements.
What happens when I land?
Clear immigration, collect your baggage and follow the exit signs. Makerere University is roughly 1–1.5 hours from Entebbe by road, depending on traffic. If you have booked an airport transfer through Ever Based Tours & Travel, their team will meet you and take you to your accommodation. Confirm your transfer before you leave, and keep their contact details to hand on the journey.
During Your Stay

Where should I stay?
Book early, ideally close to the venue. Before you confirm, check the distance to Makerere University, whether breakfast, Wi-Fi and airport transfers are included, and the payment and cancellation terms. Ever Based Tours & Travel can suggest options to suit your budget and length of stay. Venue & accommodation →
What currency is used?
The Uganda Shilling (UGX). You can exchange money at banks and authorised forex bureaux, and ATMs are available at the airport and in towns. Many hotels and larger shops accept international cards, but carry some local currency for small purchases and transport.
What should I pack?
- Passport, visa documents and conference invitation letter
- Printed and electronic copies of your itinerary and hotel booking
- Travel insurance documents
- Personal medication and toiletries
- Light clothing for a tropical climate, plus rain protection: early April falls in Uganda’s wetter season
- Laptop, phone chargers and an international travel adapter
How can I travel safely?
- Take out travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, lost baggage and flight disruption.
- Keep your passport, money and valuables secure, and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
- Use reputable, authorised transport providers.
- Keep emergency contacts and copies of your travel documents to hand.
- Check your airline’s baggage allowance, and arrive at the airport at least three hours before international departures.
Can I explore Uganda after the conference?
Yes. Ever Based Tours & Travel can arrange trips for a day or a week, including Kampala city and cultural tours, wildlife safaris, gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking, boat cruises and adventure activities. Details of post-conference tours will be shared with participants.
