George Godfrey Okiror, PhD

Biography

Dr. George Godfrey Okiror is a Lecturer in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Makerere University, where he has served since 2003. He holds a PhD in Higher Education Administration and a Master of International Affairs and Development from Ohio University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University. Over a career spanning academia, development work, and public administration, he has held leadership roles including Graduate Program Coordinator, Internship Program Coordinator, and Head of Staff–Student Liaison. Prior to joining Makerere University, he worked with the Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) and later served in administrative and human resource management roles at Ohio University.

Dr. Okiror’s teaching, research, and consultancy work focuses on democratization, constitutionalism, governance, human rights, conflict resolution, development, and higher education. He has contributed to major studies on electoral democracy, transitional justice, and governance in Uganda, and has published extensively on political development and public policy. His consultancy engagements include assignments with the Parliament of Uganda, Westminster Foundation for Democracy, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, and Friedrich Ebert Foundation. He has also collaborated internationally through teaching and research engagements with institutions in Sweden, Italy, and the United States.
