Associate Prof. Josephine Ahikire has been selected as an Associate under the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) Associates Program. Based at Uppsala, Sweden, the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) provides resources that further the understanding of contemporary Africa, and collaborates with a wide range of organizations on research, development cooperation, communication, and knowledge dissemination to further their work. NAI is also a member of several networks globally.
Ahikire is an Associate Professor of Gender Studies and the current Principal of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Makerere University. This selection is based on her 25-year track record of cutting-edge feminist research and gender training,
Dr. Ahikire joins six other Associate members from various institutions who have been selected as NAI Associates for the period September 2021 to August 2022. Under this program, Ahikire is tasked with, among others:
- Contributing to the analytical capacity of NAI;
- Promoting joint interest towards African studies and development of the Continent;
- Promoting the institute’s knowledge and experience base and its profile;
- Building and maintaining networks and institutional links especially with Makerere University; and;
- Contributing to mentoring and reflexive learning by NAI staff
Ahikire is also an Honorary Professor at the Centre for Advancement of Non- Racialism and Democracy (CANRAD), Nelson Mandela University, South Africa and a member of Council for Development of Social Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and serving on the Editorial Advisory Board of CODESRIA’s Journal of Higher Education in Africa.
