The Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Edward K. Kirumira, has handed over USD1310 to the two Makerere University graduate students who were recognised for their outstanding performance in social development related fields during the 18th Biennial Conference for Social Development held in Munyonyo, Kampala in July this year.
The students are Abai Grace and Orech Geoffrey pursuing a Masters of Arts in Rural Development and Masters of Arts in Sociology respectively.
As it is the tradition of ICSD, the money was raised by participants at the scholarship breakfast held during the ICSD Conference. It was contributed towards the students’ tuition. The Principal informed the students that USD1310 is the highest amount of money so far collected at the ICSD Conference and cautioned them to put it to good use.
The 18th Biennial Conference for Social Development was co-chaired by Prof. Kirumira and Prof. Hugo Kamya from Simmons College in the USA. It was the first time the Conference was held on the African Continent.
The 19th Biennial ICSD Symposium will be held in Singapore in 2015 and will be hosted by Sim University. For details, visit, www.unisim.edu.sg/icsd2015.
