International Social Work Conference

For the past two and a half years, a consortium of five higher education institutions namely, Makerere University (Uganda), University of Nairobi (Kenya), National University of Rwanda, Institute of Social Work (Tanzania) and Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (Austria) has been undertaking a project  on the *"Promotion of  Professional Social Work  for Social Development and Poverty Reduction in East Africa"*  (PROSOWO) under the auspices of the Austrian Partnership Programme in Higher Education for Research and Development (APPEAR).

Key activities have included among others; empirical research on social work, social development and poverty reduction; symposia and workshops; staff exchanges; joint publications; and advocacy activities. To crown these efforts, an international conference is being organized that will bring together social work educators, practitioners, students, policy makers and other relevant stakeholders to further discuss the future of social work in Africa and learn from international, regional and local experiences and best practices; under the theme: *Professional Social Work in East Africa: Towards Social Development and Poverty Reduction*.

The PROSOWO consortium is  pleased to invite you to submit abstracts to be presented at the International Social Work Conference taking place from 16th to 18th March 2014, in  Kampala – Uganda (to coincide with World Social Work day, 2014).

Professor Vishanthie Sewpaul (University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, and

President of the Association of Schools of Social Work in Africa- ASSWA)
