The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) is organizing the 2nd CHUSS Conversations on the theme: Humanities and social sciences: 100 years back; 100 years forward scheduled for Thursday, 19th May, 2022 at CTF 2 Auditorium, Makerere University.

The 2nd CHUSS Conversations will bring together former faculty of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) to share and reflect on their experiences at Makerere University as the university celebrates its 100 years of existence.

The panelists are also expected to share their projections of the humanities and social sciences for the next one hundred years and the role of humanities and social sciences in contemporary Africa.

The conversations will cover a variety of topics, including leadership and mentorship in the humanities and social sciences; curriculum development and design, and the future of BA Arts and humanities; academic publications, ICT and welfare in the humanities and social sciences; and inter-disciplinarity in the humanities and social sciences.

We look forward to receiving you and hearing from you on the humanities and social sciences at Makerere University.

Semester one begins Saturday 1st October 2022

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) in conjunction with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) together with the Japanese Embassy in Uganda are organizing a 4 day event with multiple activities from different stakeholders. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) is set to honor Zadok Adolu-Otojoka as part of the activities to celebrate Makerere@100.

CHUSS through the Department of Performing Arts and Film spearheaded by Dr. Milton Wabyona has come up with an event, dubbed “Zadok Adolu-Otojoka Biography Recital: Lessons from Half a Century of Music Teaching”.

This recital will be held on March 31, 2022 starting at 3:00 PM in St. Francis Chapel Makerere University, where Adolu-Otojoka will be honored by faculty, students and alumni for his invaluable and monumental contribution to academia.
 

Makerere University’s Department of Social Work and Social Administration, College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) invites interested graduate students and faculty to a FREE online workshop on Research Ethics that will take place on Tuesday MARCH 1^st, 2022, from 10:00 am to 13:00 PM via zoom.

The workshop is organised under the NORHED funded RESILIENT project with partners from University of Agder (Norway), Institute of Social Work (Tanzania) and University of Rwanda.

The workshop will be facilitated by a team from University of Agder and Makerere University. At this workshop participants will be introduced to the rubrics of ethics and the research process from both a northern (European) and a southern (Ugandan) perspective. We strongly encourage MA, PhD students as well as faculty active in the research process to attend.

Key Speakers:

Professor Elisabeth Staksrud: Former leader of the Norwegian National Committee on Research Ethics in Humanities and Social Sciences.

Professor Stella Neema:  Department of Sociology and Chair of the Makerere University School of Social Sciences Research Ethics Committee.
