Invitation to participate in the National Humanities Conference (HumanitiesCon2021), 11th-13th August 2021
The Principal, College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) cordially invites you all to participate in the National Humanities Conference (HumanitiesCon2021) scheduled for Wednesday, 11th August-Friday, 13th August 2021. The event is one of the activities to celebrate 100 years of Makerere University. The purpose of this conference is to centre debates and discussions on how the Humanities and Humanistic Social Sciences can critically grapple with challenges in the era of globalisation, decolonisation, technological advancement and novel global pandemics. The scholars at this conference will seek to reimagine how these disciplines can contribute towards repositioning and re-centring the Humanities and Humanistic Social Sciences in debates on key global and national challenges. The conference will also feature the launch of the Twin MAWAZO Publication.
**Please note that due to a temporary ban on physical workshops as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19, the conference will be fully online.

Invitation to Mak-RIF/CHUSS Open Day, Thursday, 29th April 2021
The Makerere University Research and Innovations Fund (Mak-RIF) is a special funding stream to support generation and translation of high impact research and innovations to drive Uganda’s development Agenda. This unique initiative is supported by the Government of Uganda.
***THE THREE OBJECTIVES OF THE FUND INCLUDE;
1. Developing and funding a robust research agenda based on National development priorities identified from academia, government, implementing partners and industries
2. Supporting the dissemination of high quality research and innovations in a way that impacts on development policies and programmes
3. Supporting the growth of research leadership capacity in the university
***PROJECTS SO FAR SUPPORTED BY MAK-RIF
Since FY 2019/20, the fund has supported 588 multidisciplinary research and innovation projects across
the various colleges. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) has obtained 61 projects across the two financial years. It is upon this background that the Mak-RlF office in collaboration with CHUSS is organizing an Open Day to showcase some of the outputs of the different research and innovation projects in line with objective 2 of the Fund. The College will also showcase research outputs from non-RIF supported projects.

Mak-RIF in collaboration with CHUSS invite you all to participate in the event scheduled to take place on Thursday, 29th April 2021 from 8:00am-1:00pm in the Arts Quadrangle. The event will be presided over by the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe. It will be graced by representatives from Mak-RIF led by Prof. William Bazeyo, Chair of the Makerere University Grant Management Committee and stakeholders in the various research projects.

***About the TOAfrica Summer School
The TOAfrica Summer School offers Master’s students and professionals an introductory framework to the African continent with particular attention to the sub-Saharan regions, that in recent years have undergone impressive changes: demographic and economic growth, fast urbanization, internal and external mobility, the development of digital technologies, artistic creativity, social, cultural and religious transformations, but also conflicts and environmental, health and political crises. A new landscape which has repositioned the continent in the global perspective, generating interest in international observers and investors.
The program, entirely offered in English, is organized by the Africanistic section of the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society (CPS Africa) of the University of Turin and the Torino World Affairs Institute (T.wai), in collaboration with with the Nordic Africa Institute (Uppsala, Sweden) and the Makerere University (Kampala, Uganda), one of the most renowned academic institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa and with whom UniTo has been conducting an Erasmus Partner Countries Program for the last four years.
Candidates are preferably enrolled in a master's or doctoral degree program, and are selected on the basis of their academic and professional profile. Merit bachelor’s students and professionals with relevant experience in sub-Saharan Africa will also be considered during the selection process. Scholarships are available.
