Invitation - Laying of the foundation stone for the Centre for Performing Arts

The Department of Performing Arts and Film, Makerere University in collaboration with the Norwegian University College of Dance will lay the foundation stone for the Centre for Performing Arts on Friday, 31st March, 2017 at 8:00a.m. The laying of the foundation stone at Flame Tree will be part of the two-day “opening the Department of Performing Arts and Film to the community” event scheduled to take place from 31st March-1st April, 2017 in the University Freedom Square. The event will be presided over by the Ambassador of the Royal Norwegian Embassy, H.E. Susan Eckey. Other activities will include exhibitions, presentations and performances in music, dance, drama and film screening. The two-day events will be crowned with a dance festival in which selected upcoming troupes and companies will compete in difference dance categories including; ethnic dances, jazz, contemporary, and hiphop dance.  The aim of the events is to enable the community both within and outside the University to experience what happens at the Department of Performing Arts and Film.

N.B. The Centre for Performing Arts will offer both academic training and commercial services related to performing arts and film. As such, the centre will house the Department of Performing Arts and Film and have facilities including, but not limited to, a 350-seater theatre, 12 acoustically treated classrooms, 2 music recording studios, 200-seater auditorium, 6 studios for dance, music and drama, 10 music practice rooms, a library, audio visual archive, office space and a cafeteria.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again is a rib-cracking political satire, which exposes the follies and foibles of the political system generally in Africa and Nigeria in particular. The production interpolates traditional, pop music and fusion as well as contemporary and modern dance, rap and spoken word.

On stage are staff, alumni, and students of the Department of Performing Arts and Film, Makerere University as well as renowned dancers and vocalists in town.

LAUNCH OF THE MAKERERE UNIVERSITY PERFORMING ARTS AND FILM ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The Department will also be launching the founding of the Makerere University Performing Arts and Film Alumni Association (MAKPAFAA) to celebrate the Alumni’s contribution to the arts and creative industry in Uganda on Sunday October 11, 2015 at 04:30 p.m.
