The Annual Makerere University Human Rights Expo (MUHREX) is a University flagship event dedicated towards promoting Human Rights Awareness (sensitization) among students, academia and the general public. This innovative, practical and holistic approach to human rights promotion includes various Human Rights Open Space Forums, Exhibition, Book Fair, Internship & Career Forum, Fish Bowl Challenge, and the Human Right Film Festival. By moving the discussion of human rights, slightly away from theory to practice (action), the Expo greatly contributes towards enhancing academic-practitioner collaboration, fosters interdisciplinary dialogue, cultivates critical thinking on different human rights issues and also exposes students to various local and international institutions involved in the promotion and protection of human rights within the country.

Dr Wilfred Lajul's book launch

We have the pleasure to inform you that Dr Wilfred Lajul, Head Department of Philosophy, will be launching his latest publication ““African Philosophy: Critical Dimensions”. The Book discusses and identifies the content of African philosophy despite the contradictory claims that such content does not exist. In trying to reinvent the African past, the book which is based on research carried out in both East and West Africa, captures traditional African political philosophy, traditional African social philosophy, African traditional ethics, African traditional epistemology and traditional African metaphysics. Attempting to create cohesion and dialogue between African past and present, the book critically discusses modern African political philosophy, modern African social philosophy, modern African economic philosophy and modern African philosophy of religion. One of the key conclusions derived is that African philosophy exists and it requires serious mental discipline to reinvent the African past and to create cohesion between the African past and present for the good of Africa and as a contribution to the field of knowledge called philosophy. The launch shall be presided over by Rev. Fr Simon Lokodo, Uganda’s Minister of Ethics and Integrity. This is to invite you to be part of this important event. We shall be greatly honoured by your presence.
